So you're thinking about a boudoir session. Maybe you've been thinking about it for years. Maybe you've only been in photos as someone's mom, someone's wife, or someone's plus-one, and you're ready for photos that are just about you.

Then you open your closet and freeze. What do I even wear?

Take a breath. Whether you're coming to my private home studio in DeRidder or driving in from Lake Charles, Leesville, or Fort Johnson, there's no wrong answer. This guide will make it easier.

Rule #1: Wear What Makes You Feel Like You

Boudoir does not have to mean lace and garters (unless you want it to, in which case, go for it). At The Matriarch Effect, it's lingerie or none, dealer's choice.

  • An oversized button-down or your partner's flannel
  • A cozy sweater that slips off one shoulder
  • Your favorite worn-in jeans and a bralette
  • A silky robe
  • A bodysuit
  • Nothing but a sheet and some confidence

If you can't picture yourself relaxing in it, leave it home. If you feel like yourself the second you put it on, pack it.

How Many Outfits Should I Bring?

It depends on your session length. Here's a simple starting point:

  • Micro Mini ($80): one look you love
  • The Quickie ($150): one or two looks
  • The Babe ($250): two or three looks
  • The Foxy ($350): three or more, with room to play

Bring a couple of extras anyway, and we'll pick what works best together. You can see every package on the Services page: /services/.

Boudoir Outfit Ideas by Vibe

Not sure what feel you're going for? Pick a vibe and build from there.

Soft and Romantic

Sheer robes, delicate lace, white or blush tones, loose hair. Soft fabrics and window light suit this one.

Bold and Edgy

Black on black, leather, harnesses, fishnets, statement boots. This is alternative photography, and that's very much welcome here.

Cozy and Real

Big sweaters, tall socks, a tee and underwear, messy bun. This one tends to feel the most like a Sunday morning, in a good way.

Glam

Bodysuits, heels, bold lipstick, a little sparkle. Go all the way.

Fit Matters More Than Price

You don't need to spend a fortune. A few tips that make a big difference on camera:

  • - Choose pieces that fit right now. Not the size you're planning to . Lingerie that digs in or gaps won't look or feel right. The right fit, at any size, looks amazing.
  • - Solid colors and simple textures usually photograph better than sy prints.
  • - Wear loose clothes on the way over. Tight waistbands and socks ave marks.
  • - Clean, wrinkle-free pieces. Hang them up or bring them in a rment bag.

Don't Forget the Extras

Accessories add personality without much effort:

  • Heels or boots
  • Jewelry that means something to you
  • Thigh-highs or stockings
  • A hat, glasses, or anything that's signature you
  • A meaningful item, like a wedding ring, dog tags, or a flower

There's also a client closet with accessories if you want to borrow something. Hair and makeup can be added, so just ask when you inquire.

What to Skip

  • Anything brand new that you haven't tried on
  • - Outfits you're only bringing because you think you're supposed
  • - Self-tanner applied the night before (it can streak; test it well ead of time if you use it)

But I Don't Know How to Pose

You don't need to. Every boudoir session includes guided posing. I demonstrate, you mirror, and we adjust as we go. Nervous? That's normal. Tell me, and I'll go at your pace.

Nobody else is in the room unless you bring them. Your gallery is private and password-protected, and nothing goes online without your clear permission.

Boudoir for Every Body, Every Love

Boudoir here is for anyone 18 and older. All bodies, all genders, LGBTQ+ clients, and couples are welcome. The session isn't a before-and-after. It's a record of who you are right now, and that's worth celebrating.

I photograph clients from DeRidder and Beauregard Parish, Leesville and Fort Johnson (Fort Polk), Lake Charles, Sulphur, Moss Bluff, and Alexandria and Pineville, in the studio or on location. Learn more on the Boudoir page: /boudoir/.

FAQ

Do I have to wear lingerie for a boudoir session?

No. Wear whatever makes you feel like yourself: a robe, jeans, a big sweater, or nothing at all. It's your call.

I'm nervous and I don't love my body. Can I still do this?

Yes. Feeling that way is common for first-timers. Posing is fully guided, I'll go at your pace, and you can tell me anything you'd like to focus on or avoid.

Do you photograph boudoir clients from Lake Charles and Leesville?

Yes. My private studio is in DeRidder, and I also travel to Leesville, Fort Johnson, Lake Charles, and Alexandria for on-location sessions.
