Unapologetic: Batty Brea at the Gothic Hanging Jail

Some women don’t ask permission to exist exactly as they are.
They walk into a room—or in this case, an abandoned jail—and own it.

That’s the energy behind the Unapologetic series. It’s about identity without dilution. Personality without softening. The kind of presence that refuses to shrink itself just to make other people comfortable.

And that’s exactly what Breanna—known online as Batty Brea (@livingBatty)—brought to this session.

A Place With a Past

DeRidder’s historic Gothic Hanging Jail has stood since 1914, a towering piece of architecture that has witnessed more than a century of stories. In 1928, two men were executed there, hanged inside the building itself. A spiral staircase still winds its way up to the gallows where it happened—a chilling reminder of the history that lives within its walls.

For locals, the jail has long been surrounded by stories of unexplained sounds, shadows, and strange energy lingering in the halls.

It’s the kind of place that feels heavy with history.

Which made it the perfect backdrop for a session built around dark beauty, bold presence, and fearless individuality.

A Presence That Refuses to Blend In

Breanna didn’t arrive trying to fit into the space.

She arrived owning it.

Her aesthetic is unmistakable—gothic, dramatic, and deeply expressive. The kind of style that turns heads in small towns where standing out isn’t always encouraged.

But that’s the heart of Unapologetic.

It’s not about trying to be understood by everyone.
It’s about showing up fully as yourself.

Breanna embodies that spirit. Her style is dark, creative, and intentional, and she carries it with a confidence that feels both powerful and natural. Walking through the historic jail in lace and black textures, she transformed the haunting architecture into something cinematic—almost like stepping into a story suspended between past and present.

The contrast was striking: centuries-old iron bars and stone walls meeting modern gothic elegance.

The Power of Taking Up Space

In smaller towns, people who live outside the norm often feel pressure to soften their edges. To dress differently. To quiet parts of themselves that might make others uncomfortable.

But the women who step into The Matriarch Effect sessions aren’t here to blend in.

They’re here to exist boldly.

The Unapologetic series celebrates exactly that. It’s a reminder that individuality is not something to hide—it’s something to honor. Whether that expression is dark, wild, artistic, soft, or rebellious, every woman deserves the freedom to embody it without hesitation.

Breanna’s session at the Gothic Hanging Jail became a perfect reflection of that philosophy: a woman standing confidently inside a space filled with history, bringing her own energy and identity into it without apology.

The Unapologetic Series

The Unapologetic series is designed for women who want to celebrate the parts of themselves that refuse to be muted.

The artists.
The rebels.
The women who live outside expectations.

It’s not about fitting into an image.
It’s about owning who you are.

Breanna didn’t come to blend into the shadows of the old jail.

She came to stand in them—and make them her stage.
